X-Marvel presenta storie mutanti, per nulla di contorno. Chi ha scelto in quegli anni la sola lettura della "rivista" Gli Incredibili X-Men ha dovuto mandar giù un boccone veramente amaro, se le storie inizialmente avvincenti subivano una certa ricaduta via via che si andava avanti risultava evidente che le storie diventavano frammentarie e spezzettate, infatti si può dire che metà delle storie richiedevano la lettura di X-Factor, pubblicato su X-Marvel, che diventava sempre più interessante, numero dopo numero.
Alcuni crossover (Il Massacro di Mutanti, Inferno) necessitano la lettura di entrambe le testate, con il supplemento de I Nuovi Mutanti (che dopo aver avuto una testata tutta loro, per più di un anno, sono poi finiti su X-Marvel).
